All roads led to the Hurtwood Polo Club in London on 30th July for the 4th annual Lux Afrique Polo Day, which was nothing short of an opulent showcase and celebration of black excellence.
Although, ‘the sport of kings’ and its rise in popularity on the African continent took center stage, the event also served as a platform to showcase Africa’s rich melting pot of culture, cuisine and fashion.
The Lux Afrique Polo Day is the first-ever African-dedicated polo event in the United Kingdom or Europe. This year’s event made history as more than 4000 people from countries including South Africa, Ghana, Gambia, Zambia and many others, coming together to celebrate Africa’s richness.
“We proudly established this annual event to celebrate the continent of Africa and its rich, eclectic collection of cultures. This year we were thrilled to celebrate the rising prominence of African polo players,” said founder Alexander Amosu.
Guests pulled out all the stops, slaying on the red carpet with one guest even arriving in a helicopter.
Magical performances by the Brazilian Dancer group, Afrobeats live band, and a range of DJs on the decks kept guests well-entertained throughout the day.
Headliner and soul-pop legend, Shola Ama serenaded guests with tracks that brought back a sense of nostalgia.
Apart from the fashion and music, people were also treated to a tantalising feast of African cuisine prepared by four award-winning African chefs, Victor Ofunime Okunowo, Louis Ashok, Vivian John, and Elody Kolden.
Of course, the day’s event culminated into a nail-biting match between Team Chikonda (Sekou Torre, Lary Ehimuan, Jai Parmar, Haseeb Minhas) and Team Jaala (Reggie Akingbade, Kayode Okunwobi, Muhammad Maina, Scott Anderson).

Lux Afrique has also just revealed that polo enthusiasts can look forward to another rocking polo day at Accra Polo Club, Ghana on 27th December 2022.
