3. Nicky Oppenheimer

Nicky Oppenheimer (75) heir to the De Beer family diamond fortune, sold his 40% stake to the mining group Anglo American in 2012 for $5.1 billion in cash. The third generation of his family to run De Beers, he took the company private in 2001. Before 2012, the Oppenheimer family occupied the controlling spot in the world’s diamond trade for 85 years. In 2014 Oppenheimer branched out and started Fireblade Aviation. His philanthropic practices led him to donate $110 million to South African small businesses during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
