Another week, yet another major brand campaign is fronted by a Black American star.
Last week A$AP Rocky was revealed as the new face of Dior Homme for it’s fall campaign. This week one of hollywood’s coolest hipster celeb offsprings, Willow Smith, has been chosen by famed Designer/ Photographer Karl Lagerfeld to front Chanel’s fall-winter 2016/17 eyewear campaign, as announced on Monday.
Smith is the star of the new fall/winter eyewear campaign, photographed as usual by Lagerfeld himself. The young musician is signed with The Society Management and has previously starred in a Marc Jacobs campaign.
“Swathed in jewels from the Fall-Winter 2016/17 Ready-to-Wear collection, she breathes new energy into the world of Chanel eyewear,” said the brand in a statement, adding that her youth and energy charmed Lagerfeld. Smith follows in the footsteps of another stylish famous kid, Lily-Rose Depp, 17, whose Chanel eyewear campaign was released a year ago, before landing a fragrance campaign for the house this year. Cara Delevingne is another frequent face, even after (basically) retiring from modelling, which just goes to show how important these campaigns are — and how significant it is that Chanel is featuring a black woman front and centre.
