LVMH Louis Vuitton appoints Virgil Abloh as its new Men’s Artistic Director

Louis Vuitton's streetwear links

Abloh brings streetwear cool and know-how from Off-White to Louis Vuitton at a time when it is trying to reach younger consumers. Abloh’s predecessor Kim Jones (who is currently heading up menswear at Christin Dior) was instrumental in leading the collaboration between streetwear brand Supreme and Louis Vuitton. This gives a strong indication of the direction Louis Vuitton menswear is headed. That said, the world will be waiting with bated breath for Abloh’s first Louis Vuitton collection in June at Paris Fashion Week.

Abloh has reportedly said of his appointment “This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.”

Abloh once said in a GQ interview (https://www.gq.com/story/virgil-abloh-profile) that he”wants to design for a house”. That wish has finally come to fruition.

Abloh is also a well-respected D.J. who goes by the name Flat White. He is expecting to cut back on his DJ’ing to focus on his new role at the brand and running his Italy-based label Off-White.
